UPDATE:
Updated:
09 Jun 2010 :
The Person that wanted to run UNN Local 515 has cancelled and
UNN Local 510 has moved to Campell River, BC.
We still want to focus on the interest of the people in Gold
River, BC:
The representatives from the Local UNN 510 agree's that the structure of the UNN has
to respond to the reality of people, and people
should not be required to fit into an artificially
organized structure based on geography. Interests
and passions are what drive people to action, so the
development of UNN Local 510 are of people with similar
interests is a route that UNN Local 510 support for the community of Campbell River,
BC.
However, there are common
issues that we need to work together on between the community of Campbell River, and UNN Local 510. There are
smart ways of providing for the administration of
the UNN Local 510, and there are ways we can increase resources (fundraising)
for all of our needs. Towards that end, we are looking for volunteers to
help us achieve this as we serve the off reserve aboriginal community. If
you want to volunteer for the United Native Nation's Local 510, you can contact
us by email:

UNN Local 510 Updates
·
Local 510 works closely with Street
Life Ministry
·
Local 510 is presently working on two
proposals around Community Economic Development and
an employment security strategy – both – in

of revenue created through office rental and/or
program development
·
The UNN Local has also completed the
first draft of a JCP proposal that will organize an
urban aboriginal conference, set up to identify
needs in the community, work with service providers,
other UNN Locals and organizations to set up a

Common Interest Areas
Identified
The representatives from both
UNN Local 510 and Street Life Ministry agreed that the structure of the UNN has
to respond to the reality of people, and people
should not be required to fit into an artificially
organized structure based on geography. Interests
and passions are what drive people to action, so the
development of UNN Local 510 and Street Life Ministry work with similar
interests and is a route that both UNN Local 510 and Street Life Ministry support.
However, there are common issues that we need to work together on. There
are smart ways of providing for the administration of both the UNN Local 510 and
Street Life Ministry, and there are ways we can
increase resources (fundraising) for all of our
needs. Towards that end, the idea of an MOU was
proposed. Attached is a draft copy of the a
proposed Memorandum of Understanding between UNN
Local 510 and Street Life Ministry
Proposed Memorandum
of Understanding
Between
United Native Nations Local 510
And
Street Life Ministry
WHEREAS United
Native Nations Local 51 and Street Life Ministry (hereinafter referred to as the parties)
are organized under the principles of the UNITED
NATIVE NATIONS SOCIETY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA,
WHEREAS, the parties
are located in Campbell River, British Columbia,
AND WHEREAS, the
parties agree that the structure of the United
Native Nations Society of British Columbia needs to
respond to the memberships visions and energies
rather than people fitting into artificial Local’s
organized under geographic criteria,
BE IT RESOLVED THAT
THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES OUTLINED BELOW WILL FORM
THE BASIS FOR THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WHICH
WILL GOVERN THE MANNER IN WHICH THE PARTIES AGREE TO
WORK TOGETHER.
1.
The Parties
will work towards a common administrative
structure. The administrative structure would then
provide cost-effective support for the operations of
both parties in one location.
2.
The Parties
will work together in organizing forums, community
meetings and other venues to allow the UNN
membership and the off-reserve aboriginal community
at large to identify issues of concern.
3.
The Parties
will work together, with the aboriginal community,
to facilitate solutions to the problems identified
in community meetings.
4.
The Parties
agree that the urban aboriginal community in Campbell River, BC
needs to go through an exercise of expressing the
community’s values and then translate those values
into the incorporation documents of both Parties.
5.
The Parties
will agree to identify and undertake common projects
– the development of a community plan of action –
and a process of allowing aboriginal service
providers, the two Parties and other
organizations identify where they feel their
organization can best contribute to that central
urban aboriginal community plan of action.
6.
The Parties
agree to work together so that both can
develop strong organizational structure and
capacity.
7.
The Parties
agree to work together to improve two-way
communication between each other and the Provincial
Office. A communication strategy will be developed
and that strategy will include other aboriginal
organization, the governments and the public at
large.
8.
The Parties
will work towards developing, implementing and
executing an annual fundraising strategy with a
revenue sharing formula.
9.
The Parties
will work together on sponsoring an inter-tribal
series of cultural events (i.e. Algonquian Days,
West Coast Aboriginal Days, etc.). These events can
be organized in conjunction with other festivals in the community.
Then the terms and
conditions of the MOU can be added to these
objectives.
