United Native Nations, Local 510
1) The name of the society is
UNITED NATION NATIONS LOCAL 510
(hereinafter referred to as “the
Society”)
2) The purpose(s) of the Society
are:
a) To work together for the
protection of the welfare of Aboriginal Children;
b) To facilitate community based
self-reliance through the development of member’s groups that
are set up for the
relief of poverty, self-help groups that make their membership available to
Aboriginal people in the community that meet the criteria of charitable needs.
c) To carry out programs consistent
with those of a charitable organization for the advancement
of the level of
education, the relief of poverty and the encouragement of wellness through
Aboriginal cultural, traditional, spiritual, and holistic growth.
d) To organize and unite together
Aboriginal People for the purpose of our Society.
3) The funds of the Society not
required for immediate use may be kept in deposit in a Bank or may
be invested
in such a manner as determined by the Directors from time to time.
This
provision is
unalterable.
4) The operations of the Society are
to be chiefly carried out in the vicinity of the City of Nanaimo,
in
the province of British Columbia.
This provision is alterable.
5) If, upon the winding up or
dissolution of the Society, there remains after the satisfaction of all its
debts and liabilities, any property whatsoever, the same shall be given or
transferred to such other
organization or organizations in Canada having
purposes similar to the purposes of the Society, as
may be determined by the
Members of the Society at the time of dissolution and if insofar as effect
cannot be given to the foregoing provisions, then to some charitable purpose.
This provision is unalterable.
BYLAWS
The bylaws of the
Society are those set out in Schedule B of the
Society Act
, with the
following variations, deletions and additions:
1) Bylaw 3 or Part 2 – Membership –
be revised to:
The members of the Society are the applicants for
incorporation of the Society, and those persons who subsequently become members,
in accordance with these bylaws and, in either case, have not ceased to be
members. Membership in the Society shall consist of three types including Full
Members, Associate Members and Honorary Members.
i) Any person may apply for
membership as a
Full Member
of the Society provided that the applicant:
(a) Has been resident of British Columbia
for the three (3) months prior to his/her
application;
(b) Is over sixteen (16) years of age
at the time of the application;
(c) Is of Aboriginal ancestry
ii) The spouse and children of a
Full Member of the Society who do not themselves qualify for Full Membership may
become Associate Members of the Society.
iii) Any person who in the opinion of
the Directors or Members merits special consideration may be accepted as an
Honorary Member of the Society by a Resolution of the Directors or the Members
at a meeting called for that purpose.
2) Bylaw 22 (1) of Part 4 –
Proceedings at General Meetings – be revised to:
Only a Full Member in good standing for a minimum of
thirty (30) days
present at a Meeting of Members is entitled to vote.
